It was very poorly stated at best. As for the rest, I believe that he explained his real intent quite well after the fact. Pretty much exactly the opposite of Rosanne and why it will probably continue to go much differently than everything did with her.

It may have been poorly stated in print, yes.

In contrast to Roseanne's "I thought the bitch was white" way about it?

Funny, you're concerned about defending Norm for THIS PART:

Norm will be fine. he didn't actually masturbate in front of women who didn't want him too or ruin any women's careers...nor did he call a Black woman an "Ape". He just supported those who did and kinda implied the victims didn't suffer. Nothing to see here folks...

This is why MeToo and other so-called SJW movements exist.

The few reviews I’ve read of the show have not been good.

I haven't read any of the reviews yet, but if it's anything like his YouTube show I'm going to love it. Norm's definitely an acquired taste and if the critics aren't fans, I doubt they'd enjoy this new show.

It is FASCINATING that you will claim that I am "defending" Norm when all I did was ask you to explain your comments/claim.

Fair enough.

Typically, when someone uses the phrase "the same way" as in the first quote, it is meant to be interpreted as "to the same extent." So that is why the explanation was necessary.

Thank you.

Once again you are not wrong But I just want to highlight the difference between saying something dumb, and doing something really bad.

All I know is I would take losing my job over being the one of those victims any day.

You would find losing your job preferable to being compared to an ape on twitter?

"...didn't suffer the same way as Roseanne and Louis C.K. did."

But yeah, even Rosnanne could recover quite quickly if she stopped the crazy. She made, and continue to make, herself the victim.

So, to clarify, since your initial post was so vague, you would prefer to lose your job rather than be compelled to watch Louie CK masturbate?

Compelled? Seems like Norm isn't the only one dismissing the effect on victims.

Yes. I'll always take losing a job over being a victim. Even if it's something that seems as silly (to others) as always being known as the person Rosanne called an ape. Jobs are not impossible to replace, especially if losing it wasn't your own doing, and if you're Rosanne or Louis C.K.

Norm's statements after the fact lead me to believe he knows where others are coming from.

I am not black, but I believe "nobody" black people face greater trials in their everyday lives (like the threat of a cop murdering you in your own home) than being compared to an ape by a very famous person.

If I was black and famous enough to elicit Roseanne's attention for some reason, and she called me an ape, I think I would have already developed a thick enough skin not to care so much. I am certain Valerie Jarrett has received plenty of actual threats to her person in her lifetime, seeing as how she is a woman of color who worked for Obama.

I'm aware of the definition and would have simply used forced. I'm sure the victims would have as well.

That said, we have definitely reached the agree to disagree stage. He clarified after the fact and his show is till out there.

Then your word choice would have been a poorer option.

Saying that someone was "forced" to do something has a greater implication that physical force was involved.

None of the reporting about Louie CK that I have read contains an accusation that he ever laid hands on one of his victims, or ever threatened them in any way.

Compelled is a more precise word to communicate that "the force" involved was an understanding of the power dynamic.

So, now you have learned something about vocabulary. You're welcome.

How about everyone please take a break from this thread unless you've actually watched the show and have a comment about it.

And I am leaving the whole "victim" thing alone, even though I would never describe any of the people involved in any of these situations as victims.
